About Me - Your Local Newborn Photography Specialist
Hello and thank you for stopping by! I’m Sarah, award winning photographer and owner of Sarah Mahon Photography based in Glasgow. Although I mainly work with newborns, I also love working with mums-to-be capturing the later stages of their pregnancy, and of course older babies too, documenting those important milestones as they transition from baby to toddler! I find myself inspired by those who can use their art to tell a story, and this is what I aim to achieve in my own work too. I will never tire of bringing my vision to life, first through the lens, and then finished with my own editing process. My style has been described as soft and dreamy, using both texture and tone to achieve that warm, cosy feel.
Although it is (unfortunately) not a requirement in our industry, it was important to me to engage in training before posing and photographing your precious babies. I have taken countless tutorials/workshops in lighting, camera angles, posing, editing, and of course safety! I am also trained in paediatric first aid and my business is fully insured. I continually strive to develop myself, both personally and professionally so that I am always providing the best service for my clients. A big part of this growth is regularly submitting my photographs to international competitions and I'm extremely proud to have won multiple awards for my work!
So, why specialise in newborn photography anyway? Well for me, photography not only preserves a moment in time that will otherwise quickly pass by, but it also reminds us how we felt at that particular time. Have you ever looked at a photograph and it brought back a rush of emotion, a memory of sounds or even a scent you associate with the person in the image? New parents are experiencing all of these things as if for the first time when they welcome their baby into the world. Of course, it can be difficult to take it all in at the time - you’re too busy learning how to grow into your new role as a parent! But those tiny, delicate hands and feet and the way their body fits so snugly in your arms won’t be quite the same in even just a few short weeks. This is why I believe it is so important to have this precious time documented in beautiful photographs that you will cherish forever and look back on for years to come.
I feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I love. Working with babies makes my heart sing! I love their cute little expressions, the wee noises they make and just their sweet innocence. I am always honoured when a family chooses me to document the beginning of their baby’s journey through life. And trust me, however special these photographs are to you now, they will only become more meaningful as the years go by and your little ones are not so little anymore. Imagine looking through your photographs when your baby is now 10, or 20 or 30 years old and reflecting on all they have achieved since then. It’s a funny thought but for me, one of the most amazing things about being a photographer is that my printed photographs will eventually outlive me, and even the families they were created for! I like to think of them being passed down the generations.
I can't wait to meet you and your lovely family!
