Hmm... What to Wear?
One of the questions I am often asked is "What should I wear to the photoshoot"? Even if the session is primarily for your baby, family images are included of course, so it’s a great question!
Styling for your session is discussed at your consultation which usually happens well before the day of your photoshoot so that you have plenty time to prepare. You’ll be glad to know that I always provide each of my clients with a helpful clothing prep guide too, so you really can’t go wrong!
Here are some general guidelies for making picture-perfect style choices that will stand the test of time:
As a rule of thumb, you should avoid logos, patterns and prints on your clothing. These can be distracting in the final image and can take away from the classic/timeless look and feel that we aim to achieve. My aim is always to keep the focus on your beautiful baby with no distractions!
Try to stick to neutral, earthy colour tones like beige, grey, khaki, olive, taupe, cream, brown etc as these tend to photograph well and complement each other.
Here's one for the mums - Remember to choose appropriate underwear for your outfit. A nude coloured strapless bra can be useful (but not a necessity!)
A tip for the dads – It’s best to choose a solid-coloured long or short sleeve shirt or knitted jumper in the neutral/earthy colour tones mentioned above, paired with some jeans or chinos.
And what about siblings? Well, jeans or khaki trousers paired with a neutral shirt/jumper, or a simple dress in a muted colour tone with no pattern (or a subtle pattern) is ideal. Something that complements your own clothing choice is perfect. Try to avoid anything too bright, bold, shiny or with sequins if possible.
I have lots of beautifully soft newborn outfits, wraps and accessories so you don’t need to worry about styling your baby – we'll have everything we need here to make your photographs extra special!
For milestone sessions, you will also have access to my curated collection of outfits for boys and girls aged between 6 and 12 months!
For pregnancy sessions, I have a selection of maternity gowns, bodysuits and fabrics available to use if you wish to capture a variety of different ‘looks’ in your gallery! You are also welcome to bring your own dresses if you prefer, or even keep it simple with a pair of jeans and a plain shirt for a more casual feel.
So there you have it! I hope this post has been helpful in giving you some ideas for what to wear to your photoshoot, or at least in narrowing down your search :-) I am always available to help point you in the right direction, give my advice or make suggestions if you need me!
